Ledger® Live: Login — Getting Started™
Welcome to Ledger Live. This friendly landing page helps you log in securely with your Ledger hardware device, pair, and manage crypto and NFTs. Follow the clear steps below and adopt simple security habits to protect your private keys while enjoying a colorful, modern interface.
Hardware-Backed Login
You don't type a password to unlock funds — you connect your Ledger device and confirm on its screen. Your private keys never leave the device.
Unified Dashboard
See balances, NFTs, staking rewards, and transaction history in one secure place.
Safe Approvals
Every login and transaction requires on-device confirmation, protecting you from phishing and malware.
Step 1 — Prepare
Ensure you have your Ledger device (Nano family), original cable or Bluetooth connectivity if supported, and access to the official Ledger Live app (desktop or mobile). Keep your 24-word recovery phrase offline and secure — it’s the master key to your funds.
Step 2 — Install & Open Ledger Live
Download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website and install for your platform. Launch the app and choose "Set up" or "Restore" if you already have a recovery phrase. Ledger Live itself does not hold your private keys.
Step 3 — Pair & Login
Connect your Ledger device with USB or Bluetooth. Unlock it with your PIN, then accept the connection prompt in Ledger Live. Your device will display important details — verify them and press the physical buttons to confirm. That confirmation is your secure login.
Step 4 — Add Accounts
After logging in, add accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, or other supported chains. Ledger Live reads public addresses; any transaction still requires on-device approval.
Step 5 — Test & Explore
Send a small test transaction to confirm your workflow. Explore staking, swaps, NFT galleries, and transaction exports — always confirming actions on your Ledger device screen.
Security Best Practices
- Confirm everything on-device. Trust the Ledger screen, not only the app.
- Never share your recovery phrase. Write it down physically and store offline.
- Download only from the official site. Verify checksums when available.
- Update firmware via Ledger Live. Firmware updates patch security issues.
- Beware of phishing. Type URLs manually and avoid suspicious links.
- Use passphrases carefully. They create hidden accounts — losing them means losing access.
Frequently Asked Questions
No central account is created — your Ledger device and recovery phrase are the authority. Ledger Live just reads public data and requests signatures from your device.
You can use watch-only mode to monitor balances, but signing and sending transactions requires the physical device to approve actions.
You can reset the device, but you’ll need your recovery phrase to restore funds. If the recovery phrase is lost or exposed, act quickly to secure assets on a fresh wallet.
